Frequently asked questions

What makes it an Eco Home or a Smart Home?

Greenhaven Homes do not claim to be Eco purists, however we have a strong Eco friendly ethic. Where ever possible we use sustainable and renewable materials, energy efficient appliances & lighting, solar PV panels for electrical power, low VOC paints & non-toxic glues & stains, above code insulation made from recycled plastic bottles and thermal mass flooring areas for natural passive heating and cooling. We also offer other off grid Eco systems on request e.g. windmill power generation, aerated eco septic tank and grey water recycling systems.

Can the floor plans be changed?

Yes. All the standard floor plans can be changed and adapted to suit your exact requirements and site constraints, and we also offer an expert green focused architectural design-build service.

What does the price include?

The standard price is based ex Yard on a flat site with all materials, fixtures, fittings and finishes to the show home standard. The solar PV system is included as standard - floor coverings - vinyl and carpet.

The standard price does not include Council Building Consent plans and documents, site service connections (these are quoted to suit your individual site), Water tanks, Hardwood timber decks, Alarm, TV Cabinet, Bookshelf, Solarpro system, movable appliances - fridge and washing machine, window coverings - roller blinds and curtains.

What type of decking is used and how much is it?

Decks are priced at $275 per square meter incl gst and the Decking timber used is Garapa, an FSC Certified hard wood, fixed with stainless steel dome head screws to negate any splitting of timber or movement in the future.

Are the homes transportable?

Yes. The show home is fully transportable. In the near future all the modules will be constructed in our Levin factory and will then be able to be transported to almost anywhere in the country. Sites with extremely difficult access will still require to be site built.

What is the build time?

From the date of the building contract being signed, we will normally deliver a factory built module to your site within 12 weeks, ready for site service connections. Design-build contracts or site build contracts are usually 16-18 weeks.

Can the modules be fitted to existing dwellings?

Yes. Should your site and council requirements allow you to do so, we can link modules to an existing structure.

What are the ceiling and wall linings made of in the show home?

The ceiling lining is birch ply in the living room. Most wall linings are 10mm grooved MDF or plywood sheets.

Can the specifications and materials be changed?

Yes there are a number of choices of wall claddings, wall linings, ceiling linings, roof coverings, floor coverings, fixtures and fittings that can be chosen. There are certain materials we prefer not to use that do not meet our Eco friendly criteria, such as fibre cement sheets, monolithic claddings, fibreglass based insulation, solvent based paints and adhesives, etc. Please check with us should you like to use a specific product.

Does Greenhaven provide kit sets or flat packs?

Not at the present, but that construction option is being investigated and may be available in the future.

Is Greenhaven a franchise?

No, we are proud to say we are a family company based in Levin. This enables us to be flexible, responsive to your needs, and to have full control over every build to ensure we maintain a high quality finish.

We are interested in a Greenhaven design and build. What is the next step?
